In an evening of glamour, wits and poise, Maria Darlene Batacan of Lal-lo ramped her way into the hearts of the judges and captivated the crowd as she was crowned Binibining Cagayan 2013 in front of a jam-packed Cagayan State University Gymnasium in Tuguegarao City, June 29.
The 21-year-old lass from the town formerly known as Ciudad de Nueva Segovia bested 16 other hopefuls from different towns in Cagayan and, for the 1st time ever, representatives from 4 government agencies namely Department of Agriculture (DA), Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA), Cagayan State University (CSU) and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK). Batacan was also awarded as the best in designer gown, best in costume, Miss Paseo Reale, Miss Hotel Kimikarlai and Miss Photogenic.
Ana Mae Cagurangan of Piat was chosen as Binibining Gobyerno Ti Umili, Hanna Sheena Manuel of Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation went home as Binibining Turismo, while Ana Mae Espinosa of Camalaniugan and Melflor Grace Lacro of Sanchez Mira were awarded 2nd and 1st runners-up, respectively.
Manuel of SK Federation was easily the darling of the judges and corporate sponsors in the early rounds, dominating the competition on her way to 7 minor awards. She was picked as Miss Skynet, Miss Splash, Miss Medispa, Miss Genie Travel, Miss AHEAD, best in gown and best in swimsuit.

Texter’s Choice – Sandra Fortuno, Miss Department of Agriculture
It was a star-studded night once again as several celebrities took time to visit Tuguegarao City and grace the pageantry. Commercial and ramp models Kris Melendres, Francis Sariosa, Jude Macasaet, Navy Lt. Augustus Bercades, beauty queen Diane Necio, TV actress and fashion guru Marina Benipayo, and fashion designer Frederick Peralta formed the panel of the board of judges.
